Hebrews 10:22 “let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”
Last month, doors were opened for us by the Lord; when doors are opened you don’t stand by the door without making a move to enter the room but you automatically make the move to go through. As the door has been opened, the Lord is asking us to move closer to Him, He wants to embrace us and give us a pleasant warm welcome. Therefore, beloved let us draw nearer to God with confidence that He will not reject us.
Drawing near to God is coming to the throne of God with assurance that He will reward us with all that He is for us in Jesus. And this is clearly what He means here in our text this month (Hebrews 10:22). The aim is that we get near God, that we have fellowship with Him, that we not settle for a Christian life at a distance from God, that God not be a distant thought, but a near and present reality, that we experience what the old Apostles called communion with God.
This drawing near is not a physical act. It’s not building a tower of Babel, by your achievements, to get to heaven. It’s not necessarily going to a church building or walking to an altar at the front. It is an invisible act of the heart. You can do it while standing absolutely still, or while lying in a hospital bed, or while sitting in a pew listening to a sermon.
Drawing near is not moving from one place to another. It is a directing of the heart into the presence of God who is as distant as the holy of holies in heaven, and yet as near as the door of faith. He is commanding us to come, to approach Him, and draw near to Him.
He says to do it “with a sincere heart, in full assurance of faith.” This is the zeal He wants us to have as we come to God with full assurance of faith. When you draw near, He draws near to you, and the doors of communication are wide open. You can hear His instruction, correction and encouragement. And, you will enjoy the other rewards that come directly through this relationship.
Are you ready to experience the rewards of drawing near to God? When you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you, guide you into all truth, and show you things to come. He’ll make you perfectly strong, give you everything you need, and anoint your natural abilities. There is nothing you can’t do when you have access to these rewards.
Beloved, move with confidence and enter through the door to His warm embrace, victory is yours in Jesus name. But we must remind ourselves, and encourage one another, with an understanding of the fullness of our forgiveness in Christ. Without it, we cannot truly approach God in truth, sincerity, and confidence, and fully participate in the corporate worship of the church.
