Lord, Set Me On A Higher Ground

Psalm 40:2 “He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.”

We all get discouraged. How many of you have ever been in a pit of discouragement? We try to live our lives according to God’s word, but many times we find ourselves in trouble. We fall into a pit and find that not only are we deep in a pit but the pit if miry clay. What do we do? Many of us fall into Satan’s miry pit of discouragement and while we are there we lose our joy of salvation, our excitement of service, and our determination for holiness.

David describes the condition he finds himself in as like being in a horrible pit whose bottom is of miry clay. Picture yourself being in a cavern of rushing water, the noise of rushing water, and your cries echo off of the walls of the caves. And it seems that there is no one that can hear your cry. Jesus hears our cry no matter how deep the rut we find ourselves in. He is able by His strong hand to reach down, and lift us up. Through Christ we are equal to and able to overcome any problem. He will miraculously give us the courage, the will and the resoluteness to be what God wants us to be. It is a promise that is greatly underutilized in both quality and quantity.

Many setbacks will discourage us if we feel let down. Solomon once wrote, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” (Proverbs 13:12). Do not give in to the temptations to let minor or major setbacks defeat your spirit. We have this promise from the Lord, “He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them.” (Psalm145:19)

Don’t stay discouraged; don’t let the devil steal your song. We get discouraged and we want to just give up but God wants you to sing again. God will put a new song in your heart and it’s up to you to sing it. David said, “I waited patiently for the Lord… and He heard me.” God heard David, and God will hear you also. He will lift you up and set you on a higher ground in Jesus name; just trust and lean on Him.

Jer.17:7-8 reads “Blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters and spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit.”

This shall be your reward this month and the rest of the year in Jesus mighty name.

Shalom,

Yemisi Onanuga.
