Overflowing Greatness – Gen 26:13-14

To be great means “expressing a large, extensive or unusual degree of anything” – for instance ‘great wealth; great power; great influence; great territory and more’. Greatness on the other hand, can loosely be described as the magnification of anything that is already great. So when the Lord says someone will overflow in greatness this month of May 2014, it means that the individual will experience multiple dimensions of greatness that will cause everyone around you to gaze in amazement and envy. In 1Cor. 2:9, the Bible says: “but as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things God hath prepared for them that love him” – in other words, it can only be left to the human imagination, what God is ready; willing and able to do for that individual that will have the same attitude as Isaac in our passage of scripture. What was Isaac’s attitude? As the passage suggests, in the midst of severe famine, Isaac felt it was time to move to somewhere that the famine was less severe. However, it the midst of the confusion, Isaac was still able to hear a peculiar voice above all the other voices that were telling him to go somewhere else – he heard the voice of God saying ‘don’t go anywhere but stay where I will tell you and if you stay where I will tell you, I will be with you and bless you’. Not only did Isaac hear, he also complied with what God said. He obeyed God’s voice inspite of the circumstances around him. In complying, he settled down in the land very quickly because we are told that even in the midst of the famine ‘Isaac sowed’ – in other words, he gave his all to the land; he gave his time; his substance and he gave himself. As he gave his time; his substance and himself, the Bible says Isaac “began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous……….. So the Philistines envied him.” Isaac moved from just being great and entered into a vast overflow of greatness – in influence; in reputation (Gen 26:16); in expansion (Gen 26:22); in power (Gen 26:28-31) and more. I pray for you this season: that as you give your time; yourself; and your substance for God’s work you will experience an unusual overflow in greatness like never before in the mighty name of Jesus. Welcome to the month of Overflowing Greatness. God bless you.
