Exodus 17:15 “And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner.” We thank God for confirming Himself to us last month as Jehovah Jireh, and “He will supply all our need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19) in Jesus name. This month however, He wants to remind and prove to us that He is our Jehovah Nissi – The Lord our Banner as found in Exodus 17:15 (NIV) “Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner” A banner is something that identifies, unifies, protects and preserve. For example, a military flag or standard is sometimes called a banner. Christians’ saying, “The Lord our Banner,” is a way of identifying themselves as the unified followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. A banner also functions as a rallying point for a group of people. The altar Moses built in Exodus 17 marked the place where God intervened on behalf of His people and utterly defeat His enemies. So this month and beyond the Lord is saying to us -I am intervening on your behalf. His banner over us is love; Song of Solomon 2:4 Life as we know can be full of battles, but is the battle you are in is one that the Lord has chosen for you (test)? Perhaps the battle you are in is a battle that you have chosen outside the will of God? Are you fighting in your own strength? Are you struggling to be victorious in the battle by your own standard? If Jehovah Nissi is leading the way in your struggle, then you are assured success, but if you are fighting your battle in your own strength, your defeat is imminent. Where in your life do you need God to show Himself strong as Jehovah Nissi and go before you so that you may know victory? Is God truly the banner that represents every area of your life? Are you living for him first and foremost? Or is He sometimes replaced by your devotion to self, other people or things? Everyone marches to some banner, even if it is not written on a placard and held for all to see, all one has to do is look and listen on the inside to find out what banner they march to. Our very lives should reflect the very Glory of God and thus show Him off as our banner. Remain blessed Tolulope Dada.
